Back at work for the rest of the week, Rowan did his best to push aside all thoughts of Seth. But when he was alone, or bored, or dropping off to sleep at night, or feeling horny, Seth crept into his mind like smoke from a campfire. He curled into Rowanâs consciousness and Rowan kept remembering his smile and his deep voice, his raw sexiness, and the chemistry theyâd had. He thought of the way Seth had grinned when Rowan had suggested seeing each other again. Heâd seemed genuinely excited about the idea.
Maybe Rowan should try a little harder to find him.
A few times he visited the Odd Morris Facebook page again and looked wistfully at Sethâs photo. He was doing that on Thursday evening at the kitchen table when Max came in quietly without Rowan noticing.
âYou canât stay away can you?â Maxâs voice made Rowan jump out of his skin.
He slammed his laptop shut as though heâd been caught looking at porn rather than some innocent photos of morris dancers. âFuck off, I was justâ¦.â Rowanâs voice trailed off, because it was pretty obvious what heâd been doing.
Max sat opposite him grinning, but there was sympathy in his expression too. âHe got to you didnât he?â
Rowan shrugged. âItâs stupid. It was only one night. I need to forget about him.â
âBut you canât?â
âNot yet. I dunno why. Itâs hard to explain but I just thought there was something there. Some spark, a connection that went a little deeper than sex.â
âI know what you mean, Iâve had that before and itâs hard to let go of when you thought there was potential. Weâve all had those guys. The ones that got away. But you could still try to find him. What if heâs out there thinking the same as you?â
âNo. Heâs probably forgotten all about me already.â It was so tempting to try again, to message one of the other dancers, or to do something crazy like turn up at one of their practice sessionsâwhich were every Wednesday evening in a church hall on the other side of town, and the fact that Rowan knew this was worrying. But no. It would be too humiliating to risk that and then have to deal with the awkwardness if Seth really didnât want anything to do with him. âIâm done. Iâll stop mooning over him and move on.â Rowan picked up his phone and opened Grindr. âI can do this. Look at me moving on. Thereâs some guy whoâs been messaging me asking for a date; Iâll see if heâs still interested.â
